Autodrome will host the highly anticipated second round of the smart
EQ fortwo e-cup, the series commissioned by Mercedes Italia and Lug
Prince & Decker and dedicated to smart EQ cars for racing.
It follows the success that started last season in the
spectacular setting of Formula E in Rome and grew exponentially
until it acquired the prestigious title of ACI Sport Italian
Alternative Energy Championship.
Many are the
illustrious names that will enliven the fight for the title are on
board the renewed smart e-cup EVO, lighter by almost 100 kg compared
to the previous version thanks to use of carbon elements and some
additional tricks that give it even more racing performance.
The 2019 starting
grid promises to have over 20 cars that will compete at Vallelunga
during the year, thanks to the strong, direct involvement, of the
Italian smart centres.
Fulvio Ferri will
have his work cut out to defend the title won in 2018 by the attack
of Marco Panzavuota, second last year, and Vittorio Ghirelli, winner
of the Vallelunga stage who also has an important background in GP2.
The long list of
contenders for the title also sees in its ranks Lorenzo Longo, a
convincing protagonist of the first season of the smart EQ fortwo
e-cup. To raise the talent rate even further, there will be many new
arrivals like Giuseppe de Pasquale, Gianluca Carboni, Riccardo
Azzoli, Christian Pigionanti and Michele Spoldi, all with a solid
career among GT, single-seaters and prototypes. Alessandra Torresani
will contest the title of the Lady Cup to Silvia Sellani, winner in
2018, while surprises could come from the gentleman drivers Franco
Gallina, Giuseppe Bodega, Piergiorgio Capra and Antonino Cannavo.
Denis Calvagni, Alfonso Chiarini.
Rookie Antonio Tarasca did not resist the e-race challenge at
the world premiere as well as the young Riccardo Longo, who will
share the car with rookie Gianalberto Coldani.
Enel X will once
again be the energy partner of the series, bringing to the track all
of its focussed technology that will allow the smart to recharge
thanks to the innovative JuicePole. The
new ALCAR wheels will give the cars a more racing look and enhanced
sporty behaviour, thanks to the increased wheel track housing the
Pirelli tires to guarantee the smart EQ fortwo e-cup even more
safety and performance.
The first three
drivers of the overall classification will benefit from one of the
watches offered by CORUM, while once again HRX will take care of the
drivers in the race. To support the recharging of the cars there
will be the E-Gap mobile station already seen on the parade staged
in the streets of the Rome street circuit of Formula E.
This week the
Vallelunga arena will host the first of the six electrifying stages
of the 2019 calendar and will allow all fans to experience the race
weekend at the highest level, being able to enter the paddock to
meet teams and drivers and enjoy the races in the stands.
